Sizing a generator comes down to the gap between a site's peak demand and the base load it carries all day. That is why the Shanghai Dongfeng 680 kVA is rated twice: 680 kVA / 550 kW in standby duty and 625 kVA / 500 kW in prime duty. Backup installations that only run during mains failures are matched to the standby figure, while sites operating away from the grid for long periods are matched to the prime figure. Engine

Turbocharged, aftercooled induction pushes denser air into the cylinders when demand peaks. Fuel consumption is 145 L/h at full load and 108.7 L/h at 75% load.
